I felt a bump while running my hand through the hair on the back of my head the other morning. Asking Faye to look at it she confirmed that it was a tick, carefully removed it using a tick key, and commented that it removed easily.
Knowing we have Black-legged Ticks (Lyme disease carriers) in the area and unsure of my ID I sent a photo to our local health unit. (The other object is a piece of wax.) They returned two positive IDs that this is an American Dog Tick, which is not a Lyme carrier. Still, ick. While I tolerate many insect life forms, I zero out ticks, mosquitoes, and cockroaches are instant kill.
Be sure to to a thorough tick check after being in tick country.
