And Lucy curled up in a favourite place – on the couch.
We boarded Fitzi and Lucy at the kennel while we were away. After bailing them out and bringing them home, they had running-jumping-and-playing time in the backyard.
After that fun time, Fitzi curled up in a favourite place – on a comfy bed in the laundry room.
Faye and I took a quick trip to the Hamilton/southwestern GTA horseshoe, the first time in COVID time that we have felt pretty safe doing so.
We viewed the Canadian Warplane Heritage’ (CWP) collection of aircraft which includes a C-47 Dakota, the type my dad flew in WWII. And an Avro Lancaster, which Faye visited as a youngster when it was mounted on a pylon at the Goderich airport, and is now one of only two flyable examples in existence.
We visited MEC for a couple purchases and Lee Valley Tools which is always a great place to browse. The River Trading Company was well worth browsing and I look forward to returning. Faye bought a cookbook; I bought a book about Sir Francis Drakes’ circumnavigation of the world.
Instead of bombing the 401/403 expressways up and back, we largely kept to two lane provincial and county highways and roads. We made good time with the emphasis being on ‘good’ driving on roads where you have time to look around and enjoy the scenery, as opposed to ‘time’ as in minimising time spent getting from A to B.
The weather was a bit dreary so we decided to leave hiking and waterfall viewing for our next visit.
I have no photos from this trip – these two are from a visit to the CWP several years ago.
It was good to go away. It’s good to be home.
Game 1 of the World Series is tonight – Atlanta Braves versus the Houston Astros.
I am a lifelong Astros fan all the way back to seeing them at Colt Stadium in 1964 while the Astrodome was under construction. Though an Astros fan I’d rather see Atlanta win a well-played Series than see the Astros win a badly played one.
The photo is of Jose Altuve batting at (what I still call) Tiger Stadium in July 2017. I look forward to going to a game next year.
Faye and I paid a visit to Traylor Parker’s Real Texas BBQ. I had the Smoked Brisket Sandwich with Potato Salad and McCaunaghey’s (vinegar) Cole Slaw. Faye had the Smoked Turkey with Cornbread Stuffing Sandwich with Baked Beans and Creamy Cole Slaw and a side of Cranberry Compote.
Everything tasted much better than it may look. We will be back.
While store bought chews and toys can be swell, a twig can sometimes be the bestest toy.
Though I was at work and about to get very busy, I had to stop and savour this glorious October sunrise.
It’s good to be alive.
