This wasp was moving quite slowly on a brisk morning so I felt safe getting up close to examine and photograph it. About 1 1/2″ long and I have not yet been able to identify it.

This Praying Mantis caught my eye as I made my rounds.
I was cutting some lumber outside, stepped away for a few minutes, and returned to find this mantis standing on top of my workpiece. I presume it was acting as a safety inspector.
A honeybee takes flight after drinking from a puddle on the deck.
I me across these two moths while puttering in the backyard. Their wingspan was about 5 inches or 12 centimeters. I learned they are Cecropia silkmoths. Lovely and wondrous creatures.

This morning I began picking up the laundry basket and abruptly stopped – this transient praying mantis was resting. I admired it for a moment, then encouraged it to move on so I, too, could move on.
