Gotcha is a word that resonates in the dog rescue world. It denotes adopting a dog. Often the date that a dog is adopted is ‘gotcha day’.

I brought Stella home about 13 years ago. I say about because I can’t remember whether it was today or tomorrow. The specific date does not matter to me. Other things related to bringing her home matter far, far more.

One thing is that her previous owners readily gave her up, entrusting her to my care. Another is that despite (perhaps because of) the seriously challenging trials we went through I refused to give up on her. Or give up on myself. Which leads me to a third thing.

Stella was the right dog at the right time. She was and still is a spirit dog.
