What the gourd is it?

What the gourd is it?

This volunteer came up, and we have no idea what it is. Do you know?

Harvest

Harvest

Our sweet potato crop. Though they are not that large, between them, our butternut squash, carrots, and potatoes, we should have homegrown stuff into December if not the new year. With our garden expansion we hope that next year’s crop will be larger.

High flyer

I am a geek for most things aeronautical and have been for as long as I can remember. Dad was a C-47 pilot during WWII, which is probably a large part of the reason why I am this way. When a plane goes overhead it is almost impossible to not stop whatever I am doing and look up, trying to identify the plane and speculating on where it came from, where it is going.

I live about an hour from Detroit so there is a fair amount of midlevel and high altitude traffic in my neck of the woods. This plane – 767, perhaps an A330 – angled southwest. Coming from Europe, possibly west Asia, heading to – Chicago? DFW? Memphis? Who can say, though my speculation continued.

Holiday

Faye and I recently returned from  a week-plus holiday in the US, a reunion with my siblings. Here are a few photos from our trip. It is my policy to not photos of people who have not given permission so no photos of my family.

A side view of our home base, a wonderful 1800s farm house which featured four bedrooms, two and 1/2 baths, two separate living areas, a huge kitchen/living area.

This drumlin across the road beckoned to Faye so she took a walk.

A walk in the woods.

This is a view from the upper deck of my brother’s house. It was a serene as it looks.

People across the road bought a colt and it arrived during our stay. It is a Friesian-American Paint cross.

Meeting the resident Thoroughbred (or was it a Quarter Horse?) for the first time.

Relaxing with a good book.

More to come.

Done to near perfection

Done to near perfection

A very happy and safe Thanksgiving to all of my Canadian readers, and thank you for your readership.

Home base

This farm house was our base during last week’s holiday. It features four bedrooms plus a bunk room which could accomodate nine, two and one half baths, two separate living rooms, a formal dining room, and a very comfortable kitchen with adjoining living area. It was a marvellous place to relax, sleep, prepare meals, and share time.

Focused

Stella has been nearly motionless for about an hour. I can’t see anything and have no idea what she is so zoomed in on. A mouse? Toad? Grass snake? She is not sharing her secret.

Look at the cute little misshapen pumpkin

Only it is not cute, nor is it a pumpkin. If it is like its brethren, it is an angry little thing.

Do you know what it is?
