Robins strike me as being industrious creatures. A robin will land, cock its head to scan for a tasty morsel. Not seeing one it runs with confident purpose, stops, cocks its head. Snaps up a bugs or tugs a worm out of the ground, devours its find. Runs confidently, repeats. I enjoy watching them at work, and greatly enjoy hearing their beautiful, happy, caroling.

Table for one

We set a table underneath the bird feeder, where it catches the seed spilling out of the feeder. This House Sparrow (link courtesy http://www.allaboutbirds.org) quickly took advantage of the bounty.
Orchard Oriole?

I *think* this is a first-year Orchard Oriole at our feeder. I’m unsure though. What do you think?
Gold Wing

Wheeling and soaring

Twenty-five turkey vultures riding the wind. A beautiful sight.
Ha! Scared it off!

Kendal has a thing about Turkey Vultures. Whenever he spies one flying over he goes on Red Alert, barking a warning to keep on flying and not come back.
Rosie

Another sign spring has arrived, first sighting of a Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Reclusive and shy birds, this fellow watched and waited by the bird feeder for over five minutes before finally dropping down to feed. Then he hung around, perched inconspicuously in the Scotch pine for some time, singing sweetly as we ate dinner. Welcome back, we have missed you.
