Furscape

Tonight instead of a landscape, seascape, skyscape, I give you a view of Stella’s fur.

Ahhh, this is the life

Achilles, stretched out. Only one lamp was on and rather than use the camera’s flash I experimented with different settings.

Troubles for Stella

Stella has had a rough few weeks. Several teeth were removed in July. A troublesome oronasal fistula has not healed, resulting in two follow-up procedures. Today’s exam by the vet revealed that the fistula, while not completely healed, is in acceptable condition. The prognosis is guardedly optimistic pending next week’s follow-up.

Throughout this time she has had a good appetite, been interested and alert, and extraordinarily resilient. She was understandably reluctant to submit to the exam, though once it began she endured with no growling, snarling, or snapping. What an amazing girl she is. How lucky I am to have her.

At ease

I did not capture Achilles in mid-lick, he was at ease, relaxed, tongue extended. He frequently does this, seemingly completely unaware that he is giving tongue.

Grace and blessing 2

Achilles graces and blesses our lives. I’m grateful to have such a good dog.

Resilient

One week after a significant dental procedure – having eight teeth removed – Stella is basically herself. Today’s post-op checkup was very encouraging. Though two tooth sockets had opened there is no sign of infection and they are expected to close up. We’ll extend the antibiotic course for a few more days.

She eats every scrap of food (still canned though now I’m mixing in stew-type food). Crushing the antibiotic into the food makes it easy on both of us. Her energy level is excellent, interest in what goes on is normal, and she tolerates well having her muzzle touched.

This episode is a reminder of how resilient she is, and our canine companions are. She, and they, may be fazed, not themselves, for a bit. Yet they quickly bounce back, forgiving, resilient, accepting, ready to continue living.

Here she is last night .having resumed keeping a close eye on proceedings in our back yard.

Sore

Stella had several decayed teeth removed yesterday. While the procedure went smoothly, thank goodness, she is and will be sore. The vet prescribed antibiotics, Metacam (a liquid pain med) given orally, and canned food. We spent a little time outside and I had to evict Achilles from the outside dog bed; once he moved Stella settled down. She ate well this evening, hooray!

I expect Stella will be fine.

Ghostly

As I eat a slice of pizza, Stella watches through the glass tabletop, which transforms her into a ghostly apparition.

The ghost earned a pizza bone.
