Gifts

Achilles, dozing on a sunny late winter (effectively spring) day. I adopted Achilles nearly nine years ago and did not expect to still have this good boy. We are still graced with his presence and each day he is here is a gift. I’m deeply grateful.

EDITED TO ADD:  I adopted Achilles almost ten years ago. That’s how the years have flown by!

Taking his ease

Achilles, taking his ease on the day bed. Unlike Stella and foster dog Charlie he spends a good amount of time inside on his own.

Blessed

In May 2006 a friend tipped me off about a dog in a shelter. I adopted Achilles based on that tip and my evaluation, though logic and reason suggested otherwise. Sometimes you do something that makes no sense at that time.

For nearly ten years now Faye and I have shared life with this gentle, loving dog. Our lives have been immensely richer, immensely blessed.

Curl Uppy Puppy

After a full day, my sweet girl sleeps, snug on the couch.

Lookalikes

Stella and Achilles look somewhat alike; sometimes people ask if they are related. By blood, no; by species, colour, breed (sort of), and by being treasured companions, most definitely.

Achilles, watchful

Our backyard is songbird friendly so we prefer that the neighbourhood cats stay clear of the backyard. A cat was unfamiliar with the rule and Achilles busted it trespassing so it was compelled to seek shelter up a tree. Achilles kept a watchful eye for about 90 minutes until we all went inside, giving kitty a chance to escape.
