Blast off

Beyond Stella, Achilles launches himself off of the deck. When he lands he will charge around the yard before leaping back onto the deck to race past Stella, who awaits developments.

It was so gratifying to see these two senior dogs playing like the young adults they once were. I could dwell on what they once were. I prefer to enjoy and be grateful for what they are now.

Hi there.

You would rather pat my head than read that silly old book, right?

Jaws

While it may look pretty fierce and serious it’s all in play. Achilles and Stella have played like this for over eight years and they have always sorted everything out.

Dogs at play

Stella instigated a play session with Achilles this afternoon. Its been quite some time since they played so uninhibitedly, while I had the camera nearby. It was deeply satisfying and pleasurable to see them play like this. I was shooting blind – not using the viewfinder or the LCD, simply snapping. This is only one of about two dozen photos.

Watchful

The walk is done, I’m preparing to leave for work, getting ready to come back through the gate to put him inside before I leave. Achilles is The Watchful One.

Nose to the wind

Achilles, his mobile nose working the wind, facing a stiff west breeze. I had to drop the leash for this shot and if he noticed, if he realized he had a chance to dash away, he didn’t care to.

Don’t get too close dear! *grin*

I saw this tableau and grinned.

Andrew’s home!

A little blurry because both camera and Achilles were in motion.

On getting home, I let myself in leaving the door open. I drop my bag and let the dogs out of the living room, then follow them outside. Achilles romped this afternoon. Kendal tended to business first, then galloped up, his greeting no less enthusiastic.
