Capture.

As I looked out the window this chipmunk shinnied up the shepherds’ crook to raid the bird feeder. I hurried to grab the camera and returned in time to capture it filling its cheek pouches with tasty sunflower kernels. We don’t mind sharing with it.

Three tenants.

We knew that two chipmunks lived on our property. It turns out there are three.

The rent we charge is that they must be cute. We are very pleased with the income.

Do not know.

I do not know, cannot know, whether this one of our (at least two) resident chipmunks was resting, remaining motionless in an attempt to blend into the scenery, (anthropomorphising here) waiting for me to finish photographing it from about four meters away, or for another reason. Once I finished I called the dogs and we went inside so it had some undisturbed, safe time.

Welcome residents.

At least two chipmunks live in or around the back yard. Their attention to gleaning seed spilled or otherwise discarded from the bird feeders, in addition to their amusing skittering around, makes them welcome residents.

Chipmunk.

As least two chipmunks live in and around our backyard. Faye captured this one the other day.

Happy to share.

We are happy to share our yard with this little sprite, which finds plenty of shelter amongst the rubble left over from a concrete pad demolished before our deck was replaced.

I am back, after another hiatus.

This sprightly little fellow (or lady!) watched me from the safety of the Manitoba Maple tree in the back yard.

A neighbours’ free-roaming cat has the temerity to trespass in our back yard. While we like cats, we like them as inside-only pets. The dogs very much do not like cats. We, and the dogs, pop out at random times to keep kitty guessing, to keep the songbirds, and this welcome guest, as safe as possible.

Now I understand.

Now I understand why the bird feeder empties so quickly. Chucky Chipmunks’ cheeks are chock full.

Adorable.

I happened to look out the laundry room window at the right time to see this chipmunk at the edge of the deck, finishing a meal of sunflower seeds. This appears to be a bit out of focus because I shot it through the screened laundry room window.

We’re happy to share space and resources with it. Before letting the dogs out we go out ourselves first and walk around, wave our arms and speak up, thereby giving it the opportunity to skitter for cover.

Share

We are happy to share our back yard with this little fellow. I do not mind putting the dogs into a sit-stay inside, then going out to let Chip know that we are coming and therefore ensure Chip is safe before letting the hounds out. It is the right thing to do.
