Crossed paths

Wet snow fell for much of yesterday. This morning, I saw that a mouse and a fox had crossed paths during the night, seemingly not at the same time.

Regularly trods.

The low angle of morning sunlight at this time of year eases picking out details.

Some critter – am inclined to think either a fox or a raccoon – regularly trods this path. It winds into the middle background and near the top of the photo, veers left into brush.

It is, likely will remain, a mystery. And that is fine.

Identified.

After reviewing CCTV footage for evidence of the unauthorized visitor, I identified it. This fox followed a path I had shovelled out then turned, bounding along my footpath to avoid walking in the deeper untouched snow. At this point it stopped to scan the area ahead before proceeding.

Regarded.

This fox and I regarded one another with a mutually safe distance between us.

Tracks

A critter (fox, I think) left tracks alongside the railroad track.

Remains

Although the snow is long gone, the memory remains of coming across these spoor recently left by a fox remains.
