Sunburst, Lambton County

The past few mornings have been calm, dewy, foggy, misty. Yesterday morning I stopped to drink in the quiet. This scene, looking back to the early sun, struck me. A burst of white light illuminates all. The trees and clouds add welcome softness and irregularity to the scene.

. . . . back then you (and I) didn’t. This photo was taken at virtually the same spot as the one below. What a difference a few days makes.

Stretching

The other day, this grand maple tree across the road reached out. It stretched out, straining to reach, grasp what warmth the sun had to impart. On a minus 10C day nearing the end of a long and cold winter, that warmth was very welcome. We joined the maple tree.

ETA: I neglected to include the photo!

The romance of the winter sun

The romance of the winter sun

While stratus clouds at the east edge of a snow squall blushed at the first touch of sunlight, the steam plume emitted by a power plant remained in shadow, awaiting the suns’ kiss. The corn stubble already feels the suns’ faint, frosty caress.

I went for a drive along and this tree on Marthaville Road caught my eye. I was almost compelled to stop and photograph it standing against the backdrop of the mid-level clouds and the other trees nearby.

Snow squall

I took a few photos on the way to work. Nothing dramatic as our town was on the edge of the squall to begin with, so after a mile or two on the road conditions were much improved.

A little farther west. Also looking north.

I stopped yet again a few miles farther to the west of the squall and took a few more photos.

Looking back east at the squall, the sun beginning emerge from the clouds made for a remarkable scene.

Finally, all clear to the west. A crystalline morning.
