Quite an acrobatic show.

Yesterday evening a decaying thundershower moved in, and an outflow gust front from it brought brisk and gusty wind. Turkey Vultures returning to their nearby roost rode the wind and put on quite an acrobatic show, wheeling, tilting and rocking, power diving, a few blowing through at less than treetop height.

I caught this one in a stoop, wings drawn in, losing altitude in a hurry.

This close.

Faye and I took a nature walk and were very surprised that this immature Turkey Vulture allowed us to get this close, within about 5 meters, before it flew away.

Must watch.

Must watch turkey buzzrd. Might swoop down. Boof stay away.

Attractively highlighted.

Illuminated by early morning sunlight, this Turkey Vulture’s feathers were most attractively highlighted.

Soars.

Primary feathers extended, right wing and head highlighted by the early evening sun, a Turkey Vulture effortlessly soars.

I never tire.

I never tire of watching Turkey Vultures wheel and soar.

One thing I am doing on Canada Day.

One thing I am doing today is admiring this Turkey Vultures’ graceful soaring.

Rides

A Turkey Vulture rides the wind, just before a thunderstorm arrives.

Tilting

While reviewing photos I came across this photo of a Turkey Vulture tilting, riding the wind.

Tilt and soar.

We have looked forward to the Turkey Vultures’ return. It is good to see this first one return, and we look forward to watching them tilt and soar for the next several months.
