Winter outing

Winter outing

Faye and I snowshoed in the Moore Habitat Management Area today. I chose this place mostly because it was largely sheltered from the stiff southwest wind. We did not go far, being somewhat limited by being on the inside of an oxbow in the river and rather wary of crossing the river. It was a good outing though. Faye captured me as we returned to the parking area.

Achilles: Light and shadow

Achilles: Light and shadow

This is a wonderful study of Chili dog on a recent sunny day. Faye gets (and deserves) all of the credit.

Solar- and wind-powered clothes dryer

I wrote about our dryer several months ago. Despite what you may think it’s effective in mid-winter, stuff does dry well when there is sunshine and a breeze, both of which we had until a short time ago. All of this stuff Faye took off the line is hanging in front of the furnace to get the last bit of moisture (what little is left) out, and that little bit will put a bit of welcome humidity in the air.

Photo of us

Our friend Reg (more Faye’s friend than mine, their friendship began some time before I came along) observed that there were no photos of Faye. After some discussion we realised that was simply an oversight. Here is one of the first photos taken of us.

I will tell the story of our first week in more detail in another post but I had decided to show Faye my version of Austin TX. Part of that showing included a visit to Mt. Bonnell, a scenic overlook, with my dog Moonpie. A stranger volunteered without being asked to take a photo of us so here we are.

I *think* we were beginning to realize that we got along, had shared interests. Do not think that we had any clue where our meeting was going to lead.

Gratitude

All this month Faye has been working at the tomato canning plant, 5PM to 3AM every day. No days off, Labour Day was precisely that – labour day.

On weekends we have visited for a while before she goes to work, and I get up when she comes home. During the week though we have hardly seen one another. Faye’s already gone when I get home, and I’m groggy and having to get up less than two hours after she gets home. A wag I worked with in the States would say that this schedule makes for a perfect marriage – we hardly see one another.

I beg to differ. I like seeing, spending time with, my partner.

While I have stepped in to do what has needed to be done during the past few weeks I have been very forcefully reminded of how much Faye contributes to the smooth functioning of our humble home. So often the lawn is mowed, garden tended to, dogs fed, meals prepared, laundry done, and so much more. Sometimes I forget, don’t consider, am unaware of, assume, and don’t say thank you.

Thank you sweetie.
