Visit and feed.

Throughout the day and every day for more than two weeks, two immature and/or female Ruby-throated Hummingbirds contested the right to visit and feed from our feeders. Here is one of them, photographed from about 2.5 meters away. Image appears a bit out of focus due to shooting through the kitchen window screen.

The contests and visits abruptly ended about a week ago. We have seen no activity since, so we believe they began the long journey south. We will keep the feeders out and filled for any migrants that come this way during the next little while

Hovers.

A male Ruby-throated Hummingbird hovers near the feeder. Shot through the kitchen window and attendant screen, so a little blurry.

Hummingbird.

This hummingbird (almost certainly a Ruby-Throated, do not know if it is a female or an immature one) visits this feeder outside our kitchen window many times daily. I was about 3 meters away and shooting through the window screen with my 75-300mm lens at maximum zoom.

First

Spring is truly here: First sighting this year of a Ruby-Throated Hummingbird. It’s been a miserable few days to be a hummingbird – chilly, damp and at times rainy. I’m very happy to be able to help out.

First sighting

Yesterday we saw the first Ruby-throated Hummingbird of this season. This male visited our feeder during a very blustery afternoon. It is still around today. They are such incredible and intrepid animals, flying such distances. I posted my sighting on the Ontario Hummingbird Project web site.
