Long Shadows, Revisited

I close my eyes and imagine. My minds’ eye conjures my dad, a WWII C-47 pilot who dropped paratroops over Normandy on Jule 6 1944. Uncle Joe, the LSO on the USS Kalinin Bay during the (naval) Battle off Samar. Uncle Bill, who left part of his arm at Tarawa. The hundreds of thousands, millions, of men and women who have served and sacrificed in times of war, crisis, peace. All who serve now.

Their shadows loom ever so long. We were, are, deeply indebted.

While the time change can be discombobulating, it can also bring a photographer new opportunities. I was unlikely to have captured this image before ‘falling back’.

It’s good to appreciate new opportunities, though they my be clothed in inconvenience.
