Something a mere human cannot detect causes a flock of Common Grackles to take flight.

This garter snake found its way into a building so it was gently escorted outside, where it promptly backed into a defensive posture. It appears to be quite large; was only about 20 centimeters long. A handsome creature.

Back in May we let go of Stella, our beloved ACDx. The network our vet clinic is in has a great program. When you let go of a pet you can purchase a tree and participate in a planting ceremony.
Faye and I along with about a dozen other people did that today. I was able to select a redbud sapling (Cercis canadensis) which two of the techs planted. I also want to wish my Canadian readers a very happy Thanksgiving to you, and to the people you care about.
On this, Faye’s first free evening after 43? straight at work, we spent time on the deck. We derived a lot of pleasure from watching Turkey Vultures soaring, wheeling, checking. There are how many in sight?
It has been a good evening.

The Algosea in ballast, upbound. It’s still a little incongrous to see large ships so far from salt water.

Over yonder, across the river in Michigan, a very tall tree (which looks like an elm) shades a house and its yard.
