Perches

A Downy Woodpecker perches on the sunflower feeder before hitching down and helping itself to some food.

Hungry enough

I am certain that this American Robin was hungry enough to eat cracked sunflower spilled from the feeder overhead rather than expend energy hunting for insects, which are still scarce in early spring.

Version 2

Overlooked

I had overlooked this photo of snow perched on a narrow maple twig.

Version 2

Returns

Lucy returns the ball for another toss and fetch.

A tired dog is a good dog.

Version 2

Up? down?

They seem to be the same to the White-breasted Nuthatch.

Version 2

Defensive

I came across this Midland Painted Turtle on a day that wasn’t too warm or sunny. It was rather defensive when I leaned down to get a better look.

Although the species is not listed under the Species At Risk Act it is designated by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada as a Species of Special Concern. So it was good to see a seemingly healthy individual.
