Riding the wind. Seagulls are so graceful, a genuine pleasure to watch.

Tundra Swans, Lambton County

These majestic creatures (Cygnus columbianus, link to AllAboutBirds from Cornell Lab of Ornithology) are quite shy and keep a healthy distance from humans. This pair did not care for my presence a mere 200 or so meters away and took flight.

Edge on

A flock of Canada geese, almost edge on to me, displays several aspects of wing beats as they move from one field to another.

Purposeful

Robins strike me as being industrious creatures. A robin will land, cock its head to scan for a tasty morsel. Not seeing one it runs with confident purpose, stops, cocks its head. Snaps up a bugs or tugs a worm out of the ground, devours its find. Runs confidently, repeats. I enjoy watching them at work, and greatly enjoy hearing their beautiful, happy, caroling.

May I come in?

This little sparrow, species unknown, was so interested in gaining a better look at its reflection in the glass door that it perched on the handle. I stood, invisible, only a few inches away, to capture it.

Resting?

Resting?

This Canada goose may be resting yet it makes certain that I don’t approach too closely.

Grackles patrol our yard many times during the day, gleaning.

Hold that pose

Hold that pose

Our resident Blue Jay tarried just long enough for me to capture it.

Splish splash

I filled the bird bath/water dish for the first time this season, and this male House Sparrow was fairly quick to take advantage.
