Waiting
Waiting, perhaps less than patiently, for the vet. My hand rested on Stella’s throat as Dr. Landry examined used her scope on Stella’s eyes. I felt a very gentle tremble in Stella’s throat as she expressed her discomfort. All three were quite good, I’m pleased with how they tolerated the poking and prodding. It was good to hear Dr. Landry pronounce all of them in good shape considering their ages.
Pop-up
We took all of the dogs to our vet, Wallaceburg Animal Hospital to get their vaccinations and exams. As we waited for the vet to come into the room, Achilles and Stella investigated the room. That’s Achilles in the foreground. Stella demonstrated her superb memory. Look just to the right of centre. She is standing on her hind feet. Just above the countertop you see her ears, nose, and the top of her head. She’s looking at the jars of treats.
All three are in pretty good shape for seniors. Achilles is who knows how old, our guess is 10 or 11, Kendal is 13, and Stella 11. All have a little degradation in their vision. It’s challenging for Kendal to get around, what with his arthritic left front. We manage his pain with Tramadol. We’re are supplementing with glucosamine/chondroitin and have started Catrophen injections to see of that will help. We are undecided. His appetite’s robust, he wants to walk, is still interested in life. He’s doing pretty good for an old boy.
We’re very blessed to have these three good dogs.
Liver!
The dogs were zoomed in on Faye because she was simmering beef liver prior to dehydrating it for dog treats. As you may imagine, Faye had their attention for some time.
Rapt
Kendal, Achilles, and Stella barely registered my presence taking photos. Almost every particle of their beings were zoomed in on Faye, who was (you will have to read the next post to learn why)
Sleeping dog
I captured Achilles during a recent evening. He is as sweet as this photo suggests. A good boy and we are so very blessed to have him.
Doughnut dog
Stella curled up in a favourite spot, the corner of the couch.
Watch dog
In an image taken without flash, a ghostly Achilles watches me from the next room. He likes spending time in there. Achilles has always been fairly independent, being outside on his own, spending time in space which we aren’t sharing at the time. Able to, trusted to, be on his own.
Trio
Fancy dog toys? Naaaah.
Stella does not need a fancy-dancy toy from PetSmart. She found a paper towel core brought home from work, with all kinds of interesting odors coating its rough surface, very interesting. It was fascinating to watch her get involved, tossing it, batting it with a paw, things she normally does not do. After she lost interest I picked it up and put it away, to be re-introduced at a later date.
Sometimes the best toys are simple ones, disguised as everyday run-of-the-mill objects.
