Contrast

On the ground, all is still dark, hidden. Above, a riot of colour and beauty.

Winter sunrises rarely fail to awe me.

Draped

In February our redbud tree is draped in hoarfrost, a beautiful sight to behold. Soon it will be festooned in gay, lovely pink. At either time, it is a blessed sight.

Sun-dogs

Hurrying to work one day, I looked over my shoulder at the sunrise. This scene called to me, I was compelled to stop and admire this awesomely, breathtakingly beautiful sight. Compelled to give thanks for this work of art that I was blessed to see and to share with you.

We had quite a snowstorm Sunday night, about a foot fell. After shoveling a path to the street Faye and I did not retire to the couch, admiring the scene from afar and bemoaning the awfulness event. Instead, we got our snowshoes out. During our outing this scene greeted us. It looks sere, lifeless. It was full of activity, movement. The cedar trees sighing in the wind, the wind blowing over the snow, snow moving along the ground, crows flying and cawing. Faye and I in the scene, taking in the sights and sounds.

Full of life.

I have never looked at wheat other than through the ‘big picture’ lens, that is as a field, as the forest. Today I looked at the tree, the stalk of wheat. What a beautiful work, what art.

We live on (under) the Tundra Swans’ flyway between their wintering grounds on the US East Coast and their summer home in Canadian North. We eagerly anticipate seeing them every year, and our first sighting was almost two weeks ago. Beautiful, majestic birds, bringing inspiration and hope after a long and hard winter.
