Soaring

We often see turkey vultures soar over our home. When viewed up close they are homely creatures. When seen like this, they are graceful, beautiful. Faye calls them her buddies.

Harvest

Wheat harvest is in full swing. A combine marches through the wheat; when it reaches the end of this swath it will do-si-do and roundabout onto the next swath.

Feather

This feathery cirrus led my eye from almost directly above me, all the way across the sky to the western horizon. What a glorious work of art.

Ready

Combines are beginning to take off the wheat, I expect this field will succumb soon to the march of the harvest.

Hiding

This Killdeer chick hides in plain sight by being completely motionless, while the nearby adult tries to distract me by crying, running, drawing me away from this little piece of fluff on stilts.

Resilient

One week after a significant dental procedure – having eight teeth removed – Stella is basically herself. Today’s post-op checkup was very encouraging. Though two tooth sockets had opened there is no sign of infection and they are expected to close up. We’ll extend the antibiotic course for a few more days.

She eats every scrap of food (still canned though now I’m mixing in stew-type food). Crushing the antibiotic into the food makes it easy on both of us. Her energy level is excellent, interest in what goes on is normal, and she tolerates well having her muzzle touched.

This episode is a reminder of how resilient she is, and our canine companions are. She, and they, may be fazed, not themselves, for a bit. Yet they quickly bounce back, forgiving, resilient, accepting, ready to continue living.

Here she is last night .having resumed keeping a close eye on proceedings in our back yard.

Drawn

Lately, I have been drawn to fields of winter wheat. They are ripening, nearing harvest. Combines have been moving through town and on local roads, presumably pre-positioning for the harvest hustle and bustle.

It’s one of the early, large scale crops to come off. This field will come off soon. With this weekends’ predicted very hot weather, soon may be a very few days from today.

I’m drawn in, reminded of what a fruitful, bountiful part of the word I’m blessed to live in.

Sore

Stella had several decayed teeth removed yesterday. While the procedure went smoothly, thank goodness, she is and will be sore. The vet prescribed antibiotics, Metacam (a liquid pain med) given orally, and canned food. We spent a little time outside and I had to evict Achilles from the outside dog bed; once he moved Stella settled down. She ate well this evening, hooray!

I expect Stella will be fine.
