Yes, it is a shark.

Yes, it is a shark. Yes, I am beneath it. Yes, I am only a few feet away from it. Faye and I recently visited Toronto and went to Ripley’s Aquarium. Dangerous Lagoon features a tunnel through a fascinating exhibit. I could have easily filled the camera’s memory card.

Big sky

One thing I love about living in flat land country is how big the sky is. I have heard that Montana styles itself as big sky country. While Montana is undoubtedly a beautiful part of the world, I think that southwest Ontario is also big sky country.

Faye learned about a farm that seemed to have a small herd of Longhorn cattle. A bit of research and driving around confirmed it and led to this photograph of an iconic image of Texas.

Exquisite beauty

Exquisite beauty

Abut 7mm of rain fell yesterday and another 13mm overnight, making the yard much too wet to work in. So we took a drive, then stopped for a walk in a bush. We were treated to many wonderful sights, sounds, and experiences. It was a treat to see many, many White Trilliums, Ontario’s floral emblem. This one was particularly exquisite.

Bluewater Ferry

Bluewater Ferry

This ferry and the Walpole Island Ferry between Ontario and Michigan have been largely idled by ice since the middle of January. It’s been a harsh winter and the Canadian side of the St. Clair River has been clogged by ice. These ferries are convenient and important links for residents and visitors on both sides of the border and their idling has meant inconvenience for the people and significant loss of revenue for the companies operating the ferries.

I captured the Daldean working in the channel yesterday, prior to the ferry reopening today.

The banana belt

The banana belt

This part of Ontario is called the ‘banana belt’. Compared to Sudbury, Thunder Bay, and Kapauskasing, it is a balmy part of the world. On a -17 morning in the heart of winter, it seems a bit of a misnomer.
