Basking

Faye took this wonderful photo of Achilles the other day. He does not need a sunny, sandy beach, or even a sunny day, to enjoy being outside. It’s a lesson I try to listen to and adapt to.

Gerry Gargoyle did not see his shadow. Whether he did or not, it’s certain that we will have several more weeks of winter.

This fellow (or lady, the sexes are alike in appearance) visited the suet feeder. It’s been a regular, perhaps daily, visitor during the past few weeks and has been included in many of my Project FeederWatch tallies.

January fades . . .

January fades . . .

. . . into February, and winter continues. The five day forecast suggests MOTS – More Of The Same. Snow and cold (though not extreme cold similar to the two spells in January).

It’s a beautiful time of year, a trying time of year. At times I do think ‘Each day brings us one day closer to spring’ yet I choose to focus on the first two words in that thought. ‘Each day’ is its own entity, one to be appreciated to lived, and if it cannot be enjoyed, then at least accepted. I choose to not become sad, anxious, depressed, despondent about this long winter going on and on.

There are three dog beds on the living room floor – a large LL Bean canvas bed, a smaller foamy that Faye sometimes uses when she can’t sleep, and this oval bolster bed. Achilles hasn’t often used it so when we saw him curled up in it that made it worth a photo.

Made a pizza last week. Faye had the crust rolled out and ingredients ready to go. Mushrooms, diced ham, black olives, broccoli, red bell pepper, our own pickled jalapenos, and shredded mozzarella.

Yum.

Changes

Changes

I have done a few things that I hope make your visit more enjoyable, informative, and interesting.

Content (posts) is now on the left side and the sidebar is on the right. You will now see in the sidebar, in addition to the calendar and the WordPress ‘follow’ button, a ‘Follow’ by email button. If you wish, you can subscribe to receive an email every time I post. You will also see a tag cloud; if you click one of the tags it will open all posts with that tag.

I’ve freshened the ‘About me‘ page. A new page, ‘Blogs I Follow‘, will list blogs I visit and includes a pinhole description of each blog with a link.

Rummage around. Please feel free to let me know what you think.

Striations

Striations

During yesterday’s outing, Faye’s eye was caught by this dead, weathered tree limb.

Winter outing

Faye and I snowshoed in the Moore Habitat Management Area today. I chose this place mostly because it was largely sheltered from the stiff southwest wind. We did not go far, being somewhat limited by being on the inside of an oxbow in the river and rather wary of crossing the river. It was a good outing though. Faye captured me as we returned to the parking area.
