Acceptance

Winter, true winter, the real thing, puts in a brief appearance this weekend. Tomorrow will be breezy, accentuating the chill of the predicted high of somewhere between -10C and -13C. I do not exactly want or welcome such chill. Yet I accept the reality that it’s winter, it gets cold, and I cannot change those facts. Cold snaps like this help me appreciate our snug little home all the more.

Winter scene

You may recall that I photographed this tree last fall and Faye suggested visiting it during succeeding seasons. Today was a good day to visit in winter, and look at it from a slightly different angle. It was perhaps the most wintry day of the season so far. A light blanket of snow drapes the cornfield; the only thing I could not capture was the -9C temperature and roughly -15C wind chill. Winter, indeed.

I will revisit sometime in the spring.

Serve

This watering can has served us faithfully for several years. It will serve again in the not too distant future.

Reminder

Our winter has been remarkably mild and snow-free. Snow fell much of today, an important, useful, necessary reminder that it is February 9.

House guest

Faye and I are fostering this handsome boy named Charlie. He is a sweet big dog with a big heart and a lot of love to share.

It’s a pleasure to be a way station for Charlie to stay in until he goes to his forever home. It feels good to volunteer time, space, attention, and affection.

Delicate

Clear skies overnight left an extraordinarily delicate layer of frost on the deck railing.
