No need to journey to a faraway place to see a fascinating sight. A tree trunk in my back yard presents a complex, landscape.

Not a political reference. It is a reference to how, from bottom to top, the bush, low grey stratocumulus and higher cirrus clouds, contrail, and hydro line added interest to to this lovely afternoon view and my attempt to capture it.

A typical summer afternoon with haze blurring and softening the landscapes’s details. Only it’s February.


The Maple Leaf justifiably stands out.

On a mostly cloudy afternoon, the sun makes a statement. ‘I am here’.

Sometimes we get caught up in the frenzy of the moment. Sometimes we need to step back, look at and consider the larger picture.
No matter the outcome of the US election, however all of the thousands of contests turn out, no matter when the contest for president is decided, tonight – or tomorrow, or whenever – the United States will still exist. As will its citizens.
As will fields, sky, mountains, trees, birds.
Life will go on.

Pausing to absorb a tranquil landscape was a wonderful way to start the day.

One thing I love about living in flat land country is how big the sky is. I have heard that Montana styles itself as big sky country. While Montana is undoubtedly a beautiful part of the world, I think that southwest Ontario is also big sky country.
