Life is good . . .

. . . when you can roll in the grass on a mild day.

Return

Winter recently (and briefly!) returned, testing our resilience by throwing a few centimeters of snow at us. It created this beautiful scene.

A glorious day

We are blessed with blue sky, a good breeze, and good dogs. Achilles surveys his domain as, in the background, Kendal investigates the naturalised corner of the backyard.

We have rhubarb!

Bright day

The afternoon was far less austere than this image of Goderich Harbour, with an icy Lake Huron in the background, suggests.

After a winter of nearly unrelieved white, the brown and tan of dormant grass is pleasing to the eye.

Cheery

The crocus are finally emerging. It’s been a slow and cold spring. No amount of worrying, anxiety, wishing will make spring come any sooner. The seasons turn when they do and it’s good to accept that.

Remnant

One of the last piles of snow, a final testament to a tough winter, gradually recedes. I’m not sorry that winter is finally (yet reluctantly, it’s a very chilly day) loosening it’s white, iron, frigid grip on this part of the world.

Kendal on Patrol

Our senior boy Kendal on patrol in the backyard. He’s thirteen and perhaps his favourite place in his universe during this very harsh winter has been on the bed, in front of the Magic Heat Box aka the wall furnace. It’s been a challenging winter, especially for his arthritic bones. Now we are soaking up the sun, the warmth of March, and are very grateful. It’s so good that Kendal is here to help us welcome the blessed warmth of spring.
