Mincing footsteps

Mincing footsteps

With mincing footsteps, this Mourning Dove walked across the shed roof, tolerating my standing about ten feet away, watching and photographing. Patience, slow movements, and gentle enjoyment were the keys.

These little gems are literally underfoot at one side of our laundry box. We’ve given them no care whatsoever this spring and they are gorgeous. We will dig them up and pot them because they are to beautiful.

Learning

Learning

I’m learning to open my eyes, look down and up and around, to find blessings in unexpected places and at unexpected times. I’m learning how much I don’t know, and that’s good. It’s humbling and that’s also good.

Hole in the clouds

Hole in the clouds

Rain threatened the other night, we could hear an occasional grumble of thunder. Clouds completely filled the sky – or so I thought. When I craned my neck and looked directly overhead, there was this hole, which closed within a moment or two.

Postscript: The threat turned out to be empty.

Faye got on a baking jag recently and this was the result. What we haven’t eaten has been frozen for future enjoyment. I’m so blessed to eat so well.

Glowing

Glowing

Overexposed, yes. Yet the colour richness of the green iris leaves, the colour and the angularity of the red planter, and (look closely) the way a scent pulled Stella’s nose pulled to the right all made for a keeper of a photo.

Dinner on the deck

Dinner on the deck

This was last Saturday’s dinner. Salad, smoked chicken wings, creamy potato salad made with smoked potatoes, grilled asparagus – the first of the season! – and a beer. Dessert – courtesy of my girlfriend, who also happens to be my wife – rhubarb custard pie featuring home made crust and our own rhubarb.
