Smile 2

Still rummaging through old photos. I’d say Achilles the former Texan has adapted quite well to winter.

Smile

I reviewed some old photos today, one of the hottest days of the year. It was refreshing to see this photo, and to smile at recalling watching fuzzbutt Stella go deep into a snowbank.

Dozing

Achilles, dozing outside on a warm late winter day.

A wet, ‘sticky’ snowfall was caught and held by all it contacted. Our redbud tree became a work of art.

Contrast

It was a lovely today, more like mid-April than mid-February. After finishing chores, Faye and I spent a little time outside enjoying the sun and high 50s temperatures.

Quite different from last February, when the temperature was about 19F and snow lay deep on the ground.

Acceptance

Winter, true winter, the real thing, puts in a brief appearance this weekend. Tomorrow will be breezy, accentuating the chill of the predicted high of somewhere between -10C and -13C. I do not exactly want or welcome such chill. Yet I accept the reality that it’s winter, it gets cold, and I cannot change those facts. Cold snaps like this help me appreciate our snug little home all the more.

Winter scene

You may recall that I photographed this tree last fall and Faye suggested visiting it during succeeding seasons. Today was a good day to visit in winter, and look at it from a slightly different angle. It was perhaps the most wintry day of the season so far. A light blanket of snow drapes the cornfield; the only thing I could not capture was the -9C temperature and roughly -15C wind chill. Winter, indeed.

I will revisit sometime in the spring.

Reminder

Our winter has been remarkably mild and snow-free. Snow fell much of today, an important, useful, necessary reminder that it is February 9.
