Didn’t make it

Didn't make it

Not quite. Interesting drive home with headlights on, wipers full blast and unable to keep up with the rain, wind whipping leaves all around me, lightning dancing nearby, thunder crackling and booming over the sound of the rain, wind, wipers. Once again I was in awe of the power and beauty of the real world that I live in. I love being alive.

Thunderstorm

Thunderstorm

I left work the other day as a wicked thunderstorm rolled into the area and raced home, attempting to beat it.

Table for one

Table for one

We set a table underneath the bird feeder, where it catches the seed spilling out of the feeder. This House Sparrow (link courtesy http://www.allaboutbirds.org) quickly took advantage of the bounty.

Achilles has taken up drinking

I very rarely buy toys for the dogs. I couldn’t resist a squeeky toy shaped like a beer bottle. Having an aggressive squeek, labelled ‘HeinieSniffin’, and depicting one dog sniffing another’s butt it was too good to pass up. Alas, it lasted about ten minutes in Chilidog’s strong jaws. I was compelled to take it up lest he inadvertently swallow a piece of it. I forgot just how aggressive a chewer he is.

Rain

Rain

We’ve had a long dry-ish spell, little rain has fallen since mid-May. We’re getting some very welcome precipitation this morning and the radar suggest more is coming today. That’s good, the water level in our ran barrels was getting uncomfortably low.

Rain is a blessing, filling barrels, watering the garden, lawn, farmers’ fields which were looking dry, leaving puddles for the birds to bathe in. I give thanks for rain as I try to give thanks for all things.

Dancing dog

Dancing dog

Achilles has danced for his meals for as long as I have owned him. Because he goes straight up and not onto me or Faye, I allow it. It’s quite endearing. Stella is content to wait at ground (or deck) level.

The combination of warm sunshine and a grassy bed resulted in Achilles being firmly attached to the ground from nose to tail.

Bright eyes

Bright eyes

Kendal is 12 1/2, our elder statesman. His eyes are bright, coat healthy, appetite good, willing and ready to walk. The scare we had at the first of this year has made me much more appreciative of how blessed we are to have such a healthy boy.
