Relaxed and content. It’s good to be alive, to have the perfect companion, partner, friend, and a good dog.

Happy (early) Valentines Day

Over a year ago Faye and I committed to spending a little time outside every month of the year, and recording that fact. We decided to jump on a common theme for this month. So here is our February photo shoot.

Because it’s February and there are piles of snow everywhere, is no reason to huddle  inside 24/7. Taking into account the weather of the past two weeks it was a mild day, just above freezing. We decided to give thanks that it was not a brutally cold day. Why not spend some time outside, appreciating the season?

Love

For our first anniversary Faye and I rented part of a house overlooking Lake Travis, outside Austin. Because it was an off time we wound up having the entire place to ourselves. It was a lovely place to share with a woman, friend, partner, companion, as lovely then as she is today.

Adventure

I came across this in some old images. Married a few months, Faye and I went to Lake Wawanosh. My first time in (on, actually) a kayak, Kendal at my side. Off on a new adventure, a small adventure. Only one of many, many adventures in the grand adventure that is life.

At ease

At ease in our very pleasant back yard. At ease wearing pink. At ease wearing an ear stud. At ease with my friend, companion. At ease in, with, life.

First photo

First photo

Taken in April 2005 on Mount Bonnell in Austin with my beloved Labx Moonpie. Faye and I had met only a day or three before yet I was wondering, thinking, that we had a great deal in common beyond a love of and for dogs. It was a happy time, showing my guest my version of Austin. A happy time, the best time for me in several years.

It’s still a happy, good time. I never expected life to lead me to getting married, moving to Canada, becoming Canadian. Regret none if all that’s transpired and would do it all again in a heartbeat. Thank you sweetie.

Dinner on the deck

Dinner on the deck

This was last Saturday’s dinner. Salad, smoked chicken wings, creamy potato salad made with smoked potatoes, grilled asparagus – the first of the season! – and a beer. Dessert – courtesy of my girlfriend, who also happens to be my wife – rhubarb custard pie featuring home made crust and our own rhubarb.

Watching

Watching

I’m watching . . . something. Stella’s watching . . . something.

On deck

On deck

Faye and I came home Sunday afternoon to 20-plus degree temperatures so we made the time to enjoy a Mill Street beer on the deck. We resolved to spend at least a little time outside every month of the year and make a portrait and this one was easy. Stella’s ears and forehead sneaked into the frame. Good thing we did this – we had about 4cm of snow last night and the current temperature is 1, if that.
