Footprints

(I was laid low yesterday by a twinge in my back after awkwardly lifting something heavy. Back to blogging today.)

Dark-eyed Juncos seeking sunflower seed traced paths on the deck. A birds’ life is very, very hard now. The cold is awful, food is scarce, competition is ferocious. In comparison our life is one of ease, plenty, and warmth.

A dog came this way as well, I think it was Stella.

Sun-dogs

Hurrying to work one day, I looked over my shoulder at the sunrise. This scene called to me, I was compelled to stop and admire this awesomely, breathtakingly beautiful sight. Compelled to give thanks for this work of art that I was blessed to see and to share with you.

Ablaze

Another visual treat to help us through the dog days of winter. A gloriously blooming rose from my yard in Texas, on a December 17 many years ago. Coming across this photo after some years caused me to smile. Bitter cold days lie directly in our path to spring. I will do my best to appreciate them, to give thanks that I have a warm safe home, good dogs, and a partner, companion, best friend to share life with.

Splash of colour

I have come down with a cold. It’s more an annoyance than anything else, but is dragging me down a bit.

As an antidote here is a reminder that mild days are ahead, and wanted to share my reminder with you. Our gaillardia in joyous bloom.

Bufflehead are a winter resident on the St. Clair River. Sometimes they allow themselves to be photographed.

Acceptance

Sometimes humans grumble about life. It’s hot, it’s cold, it’s wet, it’s dry, it’s [fill in the blank]. I’m not immune.

These Mute Swans know nothing about the human senses of liking, disliking, grumbling. It is a sunny and mild day, they are safe, so it’s a good time to doze.

That is a good lesson. Accept what is given and be grateful.

Happy (early) Valentines Day

Over a year ago Faye and I committed to spending a little time outside every month of the year, and recording that fact. We decided to jump on a common theme for this month. So here is our February photo shoot.

Because it’s February and there are piles of snow everywhere, is no reason to huddle  inside 24/7. Taking into account the weather of the past two weeks it was a mild day, just above freezing. We decided to give thanks that it was not a brutally cold day. Why not spend some time outside, appreciating the season?
