Dinner on the deck

Dinner on the deck

This was last Saturday’s dinner. Salad, smoked chicken wings, creamy potato salad made with smoked potatoes, grilled asparagus – the first of the season! – and a beer. Dessert – courtesy of my girlfriend, who also happens to be my wife – rhubarb custard pie featuring home made crust and our own rhubarb.

Pinwheel

Pinwheel

I mentioned photographing treasure in my backyard. Here is one nugget, a periwinkle. Simple and commonplace things are as valuable as the odd, the uncommon. It’s important to treasure and give thanks for small everyday blessings.

Ha! Scared it off!

Ha! Scared it off!

Kendal has a thing about Turkey Vultures. Whenever he spies one flying over he goes on Red Alert, barking a warning to keep on flying and not come back.

Look out! Look up!

Look out! Look up!

He continued barking and I continued snapping

Alert! Alert!

Alert! Alert!

Kendal began barking ferociously as I photographed some living jewels in the backyard. I swung the camera around and captured this.

All ears

All ears

Watching Stella’s ears rotate, monitoring sounds, often moving independently, is fascinating.

Frog

Frog

During our walk in the bush this unusually-pigmented frog leaped off a log and plopped into the water. It tolerated a photo session, remaining still for some time.

Quite by chance

By chance

During our walk the other day Faye saw this unusual green and white trillium quite by chance. Had she not walked that way we would have missed this little beauty.
