On the beach.

Faye and I spent some time on the beach today. Not much time because we did not have sunblock. We expected the water to be chillier than it was.

It was good to get out like this, and good to see so many people out enjoying themselves.

I feed songbirds year round, though less diligently from late spring through autumn.

This handsome House Sparrow visited yesterday for some sunflower seed.

I smile when looking at Lucy’s flipped-back ears.

I am so glad they were not cropped to make them stand up by whomever owned her when she was young.

Of all flowers, Johnny Jump-ups are one of my favourites. We are blessed to have them in abundance.

A dog toy can be as simple as a chunk of hard maple.

A good dog toy can be as simple as an empty juice bottle. Bonus: it crackles and crumples most satisfyingly.

I smoked a chicken recently. Spatchcocked it, applied Simon & Garfunkel rub, into the smoker, and finished on the grill to crisp the skin up.

It was marvellous, as was the smoked potato salad and grilled asparagus.

Faye and I went out for a paddle this morning and had a delightful time.

Our ball girl Lucy was very briefly distracted by a bird in the neighbours’ yard.
